Adobe PDF file Viruses & Malware Can Attack Unsuspecting Website Visitors

Adobe PDF documents are very cool. They can contain text and graphics and be very small and transfer and open over the Internet very quick and easy.

However, the dirtbags that like to create viruses and malware know this and know how much they are used, and now use these documents to inject viruses on to computers.

They can hide a virus in these documents, and put them on a normally good website, which you would think is safe.

They also use Social Networking sites such as Facebook or MySpace and can attach it to a page or even put it in a comment in a Blog.

A Button that says “DO NOT OPEN” can be placed to allay any fears of malware or a virus, and of course, it is bogus. When you click do not open, it loads the bad junk on to the computer.

This is the time you can use the Control/Alt/Delete > Task Manager. Go into the Applications TAB and END TASK on the suspected window. If you click anywhere on that window, it could be trouble.

Be wary of any site trying to download a pdf file to your computer. Using an alternative reader to Adobe will not necessarily

Here are some really important tips to help prevent attacks from PDF files.

Make sure you do the first one, it is really important:

  • Open up Adobe Reader, Click on Edit>Preferences
  • Then click on Trust Manager
  • Uncheck the box “Allow opening of non-PDF file attachments…”

Make sure you have good anti virus protection and that it is current and getting updates on a regular basis

Make sure you allow Adobe to install updates when it asks you.

Make sure you allow Windows updates to install.
