I have had 3 HP DV6000 series laptops come in the shop in the past month that have been dead. It turned out they were all motherboard problems, due to a defect in manufacturing. Apparently there is a class action lawsuit, and HP has extended the warranty for this problem for 2 additional years. I know a lot of you have the HP DV6xxx series laptops, so it is something to be aware of. The most common problem I have seen is that the wireless will stop working, and or the system will just not power up or it will just beep on boot and nothing else. The lights on the keyboard come on, but it never boots, and no video at all.
If you have one of these computers and have experienced problems like this, you should check HPs website, which explains how to get this fixed. This page will allow you to check and see if your model is one of the ones experiencing these problems.
In my opinion, it is not whether or not this will happen, it is when it will happen.
