I was working with a customer today and when her kids were on the computer, they somehow got the screen turned sideways. It was odd, and I had never seen that before.
I know that with screens that pivot, or turn on their side, you have to change a setting to turn the screen horizontal or vertical. Usually there is an Icon in the system tray near the clock if you have a monitor installed that will allow you to turn it sideways.
The fix is pretty easy. What caused this problem, a virus, prank, or just blame it on Bill Gates?
No, it's not Uncle Bill's fault this time. There is a key combination with many video cards that will allow you to turn your screen with a combination of keys. It turns out that the Intel chipset on the ASUS motherboards that I use on new computer systems have this feature. So if you have onboard Intel video on an ASUS motherboard, this will probably work, along with many other video cards.
To turn your screen sideways (vertical) you click
Control + Alt + Left Arrow
To turn your screen back to normal (horizontal)
Control + Alt + Left Arrow

UPDATE: If your screen is upside down, you can use
Control + Alt + Up Arrow!
If the key combination does not work, you can try:
Right click on desktop background
Click on properties
Go to Settings TAB
See if there are any settings you can change to rotate the monitor, or see if you can find a resolution that has a larger first number such as 1024x768.
The monitor size is alsways horizontal x vertical measurement. When the screen is on its side, the resolution you will be on will be reverse from that 768x1024.
If you cannot find anything to change in that screen, reinstall the drivers for your monitor. You can go to the website from the graphics card (or computer) manufacturer and download the latest drivers.
And for now for those kids..... :)
